The MCSO women’s chain gang arrives on a barren stretch of county land in the desert west of Phoenix, AZ to bury unclaimed bodies.

The ‘cemetery’ is just scraped desert, dust and pebbles.

Coffins, ready for burial, are arrayed like the unmarked inmate possession boxes used in the jail; no markings to identify their contents; anonymous bodies. The backhoe engines are, for now, the only sounds out in this part of the desert.
